Leading Strategic Change, Uttar Pradesh Police Force, India

Following the success of tailored training for 20 participants delivered in 2009, RIPA International was asked by the Uttar Pradesh Police Force to design a programme for another 20 participants. As a result of preliminary discussions with the client, key areas were identified for special consideration.

Using RIPA International’s established programme in Leading Strategic Change as a foundation, this ten-day programme, held in London during January 2010, examined ways to clarify the need for change and observe the potential barriers and pitfalls across the three-dimensional levels of leadership and reform.

Central to the programme was an analysis of strategic approaches to implementing successful change, exploring their relative applicability or adaptability to participants’ local context. The participants were introduced to new concepts and involved in exercises to understand key change theories and their practical implementation. Where participants were directly involved in change situations in their own organisation, these were identified and examined to provide concrete support in development planning as a key transferable learning activity.

At the end of the programme participants were able to return to their organisations and:

  • Successfully deliver a change strategy in their own environment
  • Ensure that their organisation is able to respond to change
  • Use models and practical advice that help to bring about effective change in a variety of situations

Participants gained understanding of proven techniques which allow them to establish a realistic view of the present, create a future vision and develop a methodical way to minimise risk as they move towards a new way of working.
