The role of the executive secretary/PA in today’s working environment has changed and demands are now created through supporting organisational vision and coping with change. Whilst organisations increasingly require personnel to be specialists in their fields, they often also need them to have competence in non specialist areas thus, with the role of the personal assistant being to take pressure off their managers to ensure smooth operation of the business, the core skills are those required not only to be the first point of contact for staff, clients and suppliers, but also to have a grasp of basic financial awareness in order to agree and manage budgets effectively with appreciation of core financial principles.
