The public’s perception of the integrity of a country’s justice system depends upon the standards of ethical behaviour manifested by the nation’s judiciary. Key elements in promoting public confidence are fair and transparent procedures for judicial appointments and for investigating complaints about judicial behaviour. At the same time, safeguards are required to protect judicial independence in line with Latimer House Principles.
This programme explores the key principles that underpin ethical judicial behaviour and considers the mechanisms needed to ensure these principles are adhered to. Its aim is to promote and examine a judicial conduct framework based on the Bangalore Principles, established in 2001 as an international code adopted by the UN.
