Communication has been revolutionised in the last 20 years, with both government and business taking advantage of the opportunities provided by the digital age. The proliferation of scalable technology to provide information as well as goods and services across the globe at the touch of a button, has transformed the way people come together, exchange news, views and share their experiences and those of others.
This has major implications for government; the way news is gathered, processed and delivered has fundamentally and irrevocably altered. The way news-providers, such as government press officers, package information to reach not just traditional mass media but directly to the citizen as consumer has also dramatically changed.
With effective communication, governments and businesses link directly to their people, both those who work for them, work with them and those whom they serve. Without effective communication, a popular understanding of government policy and initiatives can become impossible or very difficult to win necessary support – leading to a potential disconnect between a government and its people.
This course is designed for communications personnel involved in the presentation and dissemination of information, both for internal and external audiences, to harness the myriad tools and technologies available in the digital age.
You will obtain a clear view of your department’s positional strengths in communication, and the opportunities for innovation and improvement. You will be shown the importance of effective communication techniques and how best to use these techniques to encourage information flow through the organisation and out to the wider public.
