London London is a huge, multicultural, cosmopolitan city with a population of 7.5 million people. The city extends over 600 square miles and is divided into 33 Boroughs (local government areas). Capital city and home to the Royal Family and Her Majesty the Queen, London is renowned worldwide for it’s historic buildings, museums and galleries, shopping, theatre and nightlife. In March 2000, the British Airways London Eye opened and at 135 metres tall it is the most visually striking structure and largest observation wheel in the world. London is a shopping paradise with over 30,000 shops to tempt you. These shops range from the glamorous department store such as Harrods, Selfridges, Debenhams and Marks and Spencer to the market stalls at Brick Lane, Liverpool Street, Brixton, Strutton Ground which is just a short walk from the RIPA building. These markets plus many more are ideal if you want to purchase inexpensive goods for yourself or the family.

You will not go hungry during your stay, London’s restaurant scene has become the envy of the world: it offers a diversity of food not found in any other city. Getting about London has one of the best transport systems in the world. The quickest and easiest way to get around London is by Underground, also known as ‘the tube’. An excellent citywide bus service using the traditional British double-decker buses are also available at a flat rate of £1 per journey when travelling into the centre of London and 70p on other journeys.
